Essence of Mexico Project
The mission of George O. Jackson's Essence of Mexico Project is to document the important festivals of each of Mexico's 54 indigenous cultures as they exist during the final decade of the millennium. The majority of these festivals are manifestations of ancient cultural activity, often modernized with a Catholic influence, to entreat influential agrarian deities in hopes of gaining their favor. These traditional festivals are being rapidly eroded by the encroachment of modern civilization. Therefore, it is vitally important that a comprehensive record of these important festivals be created to preserve their integrity, beauty, significance and cultural clues for generations to come.
